All Grown Up!

今週はホームステイの受け入れはありませんが、シサレリ家にとってはとても特別で嬉しい一週間です。4人きょうだいの末っ子である娘が、今週「成人式」を迎えます。彼女は15歳まで久米島で学校に通い、その後、私の母校であるアメリカのウッドランドパーク高校へ留学しました。

現在は兄と一緒にアメリカで大学生活を送っています。上の2人の兄たちはすでに大学を卒業し、1人は空軍で航空機関連の仕事に就き、もう1人は海軍でパイロットたちが心身ともに飛行に備えられるよう訓練を行う仕事に携わっています。家族それぞれが異なる道を歩んでいますが、英語を通して広がった経験が、今の選択につながっていると感じています。

リミと私は、明日の成人式をとても楽しみにしており、たくさん写真を撮る予定です。この春のホームステイの枠も少しずつ埋まってきています。英語を「勉強」ではなく「体験」として感じてみたいご家庭は、ぜひお早めにこのホームページよりご連絡ください。

This week we do not have any homestay students, but it is still a very exciting and special time for the Ciccarelli family. Our youngest daughter, the fourth of our children, will be celebrating her Coming of Age Ceremony. She attended school in Kumejima until the age of 15, and then studied abroad at my alma mater, Woodland Park High School in the United States.

She is currently attending university in the U.S. together with her brother. Our two oldest sons have already graduated from university; one is now working with aircraft in the Air Force, and the other is involved in training Navy pilots to be physically and mentally ready to fly. Each of our children has chosen a different path, but we truly feel that the experiences they gained through English and international exposure helped shape who they are today.

Rimi and I are very much looking forward to tomorrow’s ceremony and plan to take lots of pictures. Our spring homestay openings are gradually filling up, and we would love to welcome families who want their children to experience English not just as a subject, but as part of everyday life.
